2018 Recruiting Prospects

Every QB has their flaws. PJ was five star JR season, and got hurt and got rusty. Announced early, didn't do tons of camps, but had phenomenal SR year. He was going to get a fifth star on a few sites, but looked rusty at AA scrimmage in 5 snaps, after being switched over to playing BB mode on his really good HS team. He drops a bunch in ranking on 5 snaps in a scrimmage? Meanwhile Mr #1, whose HS coach is the HC for AA game, gives him all the snaps and he throws 2 picks and fumbles twice, but he doesn't drop? Like I said politics.

I'll take the word of people in west PA, top coaches at elite schools, etc who believe this kid is a stud. Like I said I worry more about who will be coaching PJ here.

I agree PJ is a stud. I think camps try to screw with how he throws the ball which is my biggest fear for him at ND. Leave him alone.

While Florida and Texas get all of the praise for having talent, PA is vastly underrated. We should continue to fish this pond and hope PSU don't run us out the way OSU ran us out of ohio.

Quarterbacks are rarely rated appropriately in recruiting because that position has so many it factors to go along with it

—IQ-can he learn the plays

—Leadership-can he handle the pressure

—Offense-is the offense catered to his skills or will he have to cater to the offense

—Decisions-can he find the open guy when they’re covered by significantly better DB’s

—Dedication- Will he train, watch tape, handle himself off the field, etc.

Most of the QB’s in the NFL weren’t heralded recruits

Matt Ryan

Drew Brees

Aaron Rodgers

Case Keenum

Teddy Bridgewater

Sam Bradford

Mitch Trubisky

Carson Wentz

Nick Foles

Kirk Cousins

Dak Prescott

Russell Wilson

Blaine Gabbert

Jimmy Garoppolo

Jared Goff

Marcus Mariota

Blake Bortles

Tom Brady

Ryan Tannehill

Jay Cutler

Nate Peterman

Josh Mccown

Joe Flacco

Ben Roethlisberger

Andy Dalton

Deshone Kizer

Seimeian

Derek Carr

Philip Rivers

Alex Smith

Pat Mahomes

About 31 NFL QB’s that weren’t TOP QB recruits (most of them being very low rated)

Pretty sure NONE OF THESE GUYS WERE HIGHLY RECRUITED

Which leaves

Eli Manning

Jameis Winston

Cam Newton

Matt Stafford

Carson Palmer

Deshaun Watson

Andrew Luck

Tyrod Taylor

So you have about 8 “top” QB recruits that have been successful in the NFL recently

This is INCREDIBLY off the mark. If I had time to go fill in the blanks for you, I would. But, most of the guys feom both lists were at least 4 star recruits which is “top.”

Love this, so on the mark. But let me say this, if there’s one position that thrives in college and doesn’t translate to the nfl, it’s qb. Just look at the list of Heisman winning qb’s since 2006 and tell me the common thread:

Troy Smith (4 Star - 191)

Tim Tebow ( 5 star - 21)

Cam smith (5 Star - 26)

Robert Griffith III (4 Star - 293)

Johnny Manziel (3 Star - 374)

Jamies Winston (5 Star - 13)

Marcus Mariota (3 Star - 491)

Lamar Jackson (3 Star - 409)

The college game utilizes dual threat qbs far more than the NFL. That’s the true list to evaluate. That’s a high turnout of 5 stars too.

ND has done very well over the years with QBs who played their HS ball in western Pa. and Phil will just add to the list of those who went before him and starred at ND

No doubt. Thank you to all of you guys. I am hooked on recruiting because of you all.

I'm always interested to see guys ND missed on who are playing on other college teams or in the pros.

Guys like Agholor and Darby playing in the Super Bowl, for instance.

Yes thank you very much!

Forgot Charlie Ward! Though he did play for the Knicks, if I remember correctly he was the fist to win the Heisman and not have it translate into an NFL career.

Actually, technically speaking, Jay Berwanger was the first person to win the Heisman and not have it translate into an NFL career.

Back in the good ole days a qb would sit and learn for a few years. Now if you're a top qb you get thrown to the wolves, oftentimes on bad teams. We all know qb's get too much credit for wins and too much blame for loses.

Before you can come to a conclusion you have to see where they were drafted and to what team. How many years before they took over. Does the team have any wr's? A lot of people feel troy aikman is a hof'er simply because of the talent around him.

This post wasn't directed at lv. His post just had the info.
