Bad decision. Iíve defended Kelly but I wonít have his back if this blows up. I hope it doesnít, but this is a pretty lazy decision.

I want to be rational about this. My hope is they tried for guys like Moorehead but interest wasnít reciprocated. Iím going to be upset if we donít ever get an official candidate roster

So this means that we have one offensive position open still - his QB position?

Still need to find a TE coach to replace Long. Going to assume Tom remains the QB coach.

Right - sorry - we still have an opportunity to get a good position coach in.

I like the promotion lance taylor got. he seems like a good rb coach and a good recruiter also, hope he's around for a while. as for tommy reese i'll take a wait and see approach, I keep hearing he's got a sharp mind.

I like the Taylor promotion too. Should help with Will Shipley (5-star RB in 2021 class) and potentially some other elite recruits.

I'm like you, I'll wait and see. Although I am exasperated. Kelly is putting his azz on the line if this doesn't work out. The buzzards are already circling and adding a hire like this will only make them angrier. Let's hope it works out!

Look at Orgeron hiring Brady and the wonders it did for LSU. Elko and Lea did the same for us, as did Mike Sanford in 2015.

Kelly is back to his old self, I won’t be shocked if we take a step back next season.

OMFG!!!!!!!!! Is this not NOTRE FREAKING DAME? What has Tommy can't-out-run-the-police Rees done to take the 2nd highest coaching spot at Notre Dame??? We should be going after big proven names! This isn't Penn High School for crying out loud! I'd rather see FAITH as OC than unproven at any level Tommy Rees! Geesh!!

Iím fine with this. I think this is the exact opposite of easy and lazy, this is really ballsy IMO. If this backfires Kelly looks like an idiot and he throws away a team that has a chance to be really successful next season. If it works ND is going to be very, very good. Also from everything thatís out there they did try to get Moorehead. The other positive of this is that the players wanted Rees as OC, so as of right now Iím fine with this hire.

I will say, on second thought this isnít as bad as some of his other inner circle hires based on the fact heís never been an OC. Itís a huge risk but there is still a chance Rees booms.

I understand the continuity you want with all these upperclassmen, plus I heard Rees is tight with Buchner. Also keep in mind this job isnít attractive for an OC because they know itís not totally their offence but BKís offence with their stamp added.

If Moorehead wouldíve taken the job, this is an even bigger mistake. To be frank, the players might want Rees, but they donít know whatís best for the program over time.

Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. Rees is seen as a rising star in the coaching world, it's a matter of time before someone gave him a P5 shot. You guys always want to roll the dice with an exciting new hire, well here's your young, unproven, but talented shot.

Ultimately, he's the OC running Kelly's offense. The safety net is pretty large for Tom Rees. Defense on the other hand...

Nation-wide "searches" have given us Rees and Quinn.

Seems to reflect same effort Kelly puts into recruiting

They've also given ND Mike Elko, Clark Lea, Chip Long, Del Alexander, Terry Joseph, and Lance Taylor.

I have no idea if Rees is a good or bad hire. I would have preferred Joe Moorehead because I think a proven play caller is what the 2020 offense needs to be elite, which is absolutely essential to compete for the Playoffs. But I don't completely hate the move either. The players love him and it helps with offensive continuity, much like Lea's promotion before 2018 helped continuity on defense. Hopefully it works out.

I so have to say that I outran the cops at ND. Tried to cite me for peeing in the bushes at Turtle Creek. I told him to give me a sec to get my zipper up and then took off. Good times.
