![]() Looking forward to details on the technique! Never got a chance to spray paint the helmets as a student, so I'm hoping to re-create the experience before the NC game.

Here's the finished product. I re-finished the first on and it came out alright. Not quite as good as the second one. I also have a photo of the paint I used. When I do the two for my friends, I'll start a new thread with each step of the process if anyone is interested. Here are the pics!
#1 re-finished- ![]() #2- ![]() Group Shot! ![]() ![]() If you do some yourself, I'd love to see them! These wont be the last ones I do.

Is there some kind of gloss sealer that could go over it all to give it a good shine?

![]() I'm still kinda wondering how to get the polished finish though...maybe some sort of acrylic sealant? From looking at the Rick Reilly pictures, it looks like they just apply the gold leaf directly on and just towel-polish it. But it's hard to tell.

I haven't figured that out quite yet. I got a clear coat and it ruined the gold. I'm going to have to go to the store and look around a bit. I'm sure you can put a clear coat on to shine it up. And as far as technique, I need to take pics to explain. Hopefully I can get the helmets for my friends soon and get you all some info!

Finally gave it a shot on my helmet. Album posted here. http://imgur.com/a/lsTQg
I think it looks a little bit too textured and might require another coat or two of the gold chrome finish. But overall, I think it's definitely an upgrade from the drab "gold" color on the original. Given that mine wasn't actually a game-used helmet, I'm glad I painted it. ![]() Will have to see if there's some way to give it a gloss veneer and some depth to the texture. The actual helmets are definitely reflective. Example.

I know the real helmets have a textured look, but they aren't textured. I mean, for two cans of spray paint from the local Big Box, I think you guys are pretty spot on. I'm pretty sure ND didn't spend all that money with a helmet company for them to spray paint them twice and send them back! ![]()
